Why pay for data that CMS publishes for free?

The raw NPPES file covers every US provider: several gigabytes and hundreds of columns, with taxonomy codes instead of readable types. This file is already narrowed to behavioral-health organisations, de-duplicated to one row per organisation, labelled, and flagged for new and recently updated records.

Does it include phone numbers, emails or contact names?

No. It contains organisations only: no individual practitioners, no authorised-official names and no phone numbers. You get the organisation name, NPI and practice address.

What can I open it with?

Any tool that reads CSV: Excel, Google Sheets (via import), Numbers, Airtable, Python/pandas, or your CRM's CSV importer. It's a single 32 MB file.

How current is it?

This is the 2026-10-13 snapshot. The new_last_90d and updated_last_30d flags are measured from that date, and updated_at shows when each row changed in the file.

Does a new NPI mean a practice is open?

Not necessarily. An NPI is assigned on application. It is not a licence, and a new or updated record is not proof that a practice is operating. Treat the flags as a strong prospecting signal, not as verification.
